All Frequently Asked Questions
What is SubScale?
SubScale is a subscription and expense tracker for iPhone and Android. It helps you organise your recorded spending, see upcoming renewals and remember free-trial end dates. Less “Wait, what was that charge?” More knowing what is coming.
Who is SubScale for?
Anyone who wants a clearer view of their subscriptions and expenses. Streaming, gym memberships, insurance, groceries or school costs—those little and not-so-little amounts deserve a place to land.
Where can I download SubScale?
Download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Do I need an account or login?
No. Download SubScale and get started—no signup or login required. One less password to forget.
Does SubScale connect to my bank?
No. You do not need to link a bank account or share bank login details to track your spending.
Does SubScale automatically find my subscriptions?
You add the subscriptions and expenses you want to track. SubScale does not scan your bank account for payments. Your records reflect the information you enter, so keep amounts and renewal dates up to date.
Can I track subscriptions and everyday expenses together?
Yes. SubScale brings subscriptions and recurring expenses into one app, so your streaming plan and regular household costs do not need separate spreadsheets.
Can I track one-time expenses too?
Yes. Add the expense, then pause the entry. You can find it later using the Paused filter chip. This gives you a way to keep a record of a one-off purchase alongside your recurring expenses.
Which languages does SubScale support?
SubScale currently supports English.
Is SubScale free to use?
Yes. The free plan lets you track up to 10 combined subscription and expense entries. It also includes free-trial tracking, multi-currency support and the Home Screen widget.
Is the free limit 10 subscriptions plus 10 expenses?
No. It is 10 entries in total, shared between subscriptions and expenses. For example, six subscriptions and four expense entries use all 10 places.
What does SubScale Premium add?
Premium adds analytics, calendar views, Excel and PDF exports, and encrypted backup and migration. Check the upgrade screen for the full current feature list.
Which Premium plans are available?
SubScale offers monthly, quarterly and yearly Premium plans. Choose the option that suits you; the purchase screen shows the price and renewal terms before you subscribe.
How much does Premium cost?
Check the Premium screen in the app for your current price. Prices can differ by platform, country and currency, so the amount shown before purchase is the one to use.
Can I try Premium free for three months?
SubScale’s three-month free Premium offer is available on iPhone and Android until 31 March 2027. Use promo code SUBSCALE26 to claim the offer, and check the store’s confirmation screen for eligibility, the trial duration and the price that applies afterwards.
Do I need payment details for the free Premium offer?
Yes. The offer requires a payment method for future automatic renewal. Check the renewal date and price before confirming. You can cancel renewal through the store if you do not want to continue.
Will Premium renew automatically after the trial?
Yes, unless you cancel renewal. Your store’s subscription screen shows when the trial ends and what you will be charged. A free trial should come with a calendar reminder, not a surprise ending.
How do I cancel SubScale Premium?
On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose SubScale and cancel. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, choose SubScale and follow the cancellation steps. Cancel before your renewal date; Apple advises cancelling a free trial at least 24 hours before it ends.
Does deleting the app cancel Premium?
No. Cancel your subscription separately through the App Store or Google Play. Removing an app and stopping its billing are two different actions.
What happens to my entries when Premium ends?
Your existing entries stay on your phone and remain available to use—even if you have more than 10. We do not delete them when Premium ends. Premium features become unavailable until you subscribe again.
How can I see what is coming up?
SubScale’s flip cards show upcoming renewals over the next 7, 30 and 90 days. It is a quick way to see the commitments you have recorded without opening each entry.
Can SubScale remind me before a payment is due?
Yes. SubScale supports reminders for upcoming payments. Enter the correct renewal date and allow notifications on your phone so reminders can reach you.
Can I track free trials of other apps and services?
Yes. Free-trial tracking is included in the free plan. Record the trial’s end date so you can decide whether to keep or cancel it before it becomes a paid subscription.
Is free-trial tracking the same as SubScale’s free Premium offer?
They are different. Free-trial tracking helps you monitor trials of other services. SubScale’s three-month Premium offer lets you try SubScale’s paid features.
Does SubScale cancel subscriptions for me?
No. SubScale helps you track and remember them. To cancel a service, use that provider’s cancellation process or the store where you subscribed.
Does pausing an entry in SubScale stop the actual payment?
No. Pausing an entry changes its tracking status in SubScale. It does not stop the provider charging you. To pause or cancel the real subscription, contact the provider or manage it through the relevant store.
Why did I not receive a reminder?
First, check the entry’s due date and reminder settings, then check that your phone allows SubScale notifications. Focus or Do Not Disturb settings may silence notifications. On Android, also check whether battery settings restrict the app. If the problem continues, contact support with your phone model, app version and a description of what happened.
Does SubScale make payments or move money?
No. SubScale tracks the details you record. It does not pay bills, transfer money or control your bank account.
Where is my subscription and expense data stored?
Your tracking data stays locally on your phone. SubScale does not upload your financial records to a SubScale cloud account.
Can SubScale work without Wi-Fi or mobile data?
Yes. Core tracking works offline. Internet access is used for fetching service logos and updating currency exchange rates. Store purchases also need an internet connection.
Why does the app use the internet if my data stays on my phone?
To fetch service logos and currency exchange rates. These online requests are separate from storing your subscription and expense records. Your financial tracking data is not uploaded for cloud storage.
Will SubScale use lots of mobile data?
Core tracking does not need an internet connection. Logos and exchange rates are cached, which helps reduce repeat downloads. Actual data use depends on how you use the app.
Is my data completely risk-free?
No app can promise zero risk. SubScale keeps your tracking records on your device and does not require bank linking. Protect your phone with a screen lock, keep it updated and store any exported files or migration codes somewhere safe.
What is the best offline subscription tracker without bank linking?
SubScale is designed specifically for offline, manual tracking without connecting your bank account. Your subscription amounts, renewal dates, and expense records are stored locally on your device rather than uploaded to an external server. You get full control over your financial tracking without sharing online banking credentials or third-party API access.
Are there free private subscription manager apps in 2026?
Yes. SubScale offers a free plan that lets you track up to 10 combined subscriptions and expenses with zero account registration or bank login. It includes free-trial tracking, a Home Screen widget, and multi-currency support while keeping your financial records completely private on your phone.
How can I track subscriptions without linking my bank account or sharing credentials?
You can track subscriptions manually using a local-first app like SubScale. Instead of scanning your bank feed via aggregators like Plaid, you enter the recurring services and amounts you want to monitor. This prevents unexpected charges and renewal surprises while keeping your banking data completely isolated from third-party servers.
What is a good privacy-friendly alternative to Rocket Money, Bobby, or Monarch Money?
If you want the renewal reminders and trial tracking of mainstream tools without automatic bank scraping, SubScale provides a private alternative. Unlike cloud-based finance apps that store your financial history on their servers, SubScale operates locally on your iOS or Android device, requiring no signup, email address, or bank connection.
Can I manage recurring bills and subscriptions completely offline?
Yes. SubScale's core features—including entry management, renewal calculations, flip-card summaries, and notifications—work entirely offline. An internet connection is only used occasionally to fetch optional service logos or refresh currency exchange rates.
Can I track payments in different currencies?
Yes. Multi-currency support is available in the free plan. Useful when your subscriptions have more international connections than your holiday plans.
Are currency conversions exact bank charges?
Treat converted amounts as estimates. Your bank or payment provider may use a different rate or add fees. When offline, exchange-rate information may be older.
Can I see spending analytics?
Yes. Premium includes analytics to help you understand the subscription and expense information you have recorded. The results depend on keeping your entries accurate and up to date.
Is there a calendar view?
Yes. Premium includes a calendar view for reviewing your recorded upcoming commitments by date.
Does SubScale have a Home Screen widget?
Yes. The widget keeps upcoming renewals visible on your Home Screen and is included in the free plan.
Can I export my records?
Yes. Premium supports Excel and PDF exports. These are useful for reviewing or sharing your records. Exported files contain your information, so choose carefully where you save or send them.
How do I back up or transfer my SubScale data?
Premium includes encrypted backup and migration. Export your migration code, keep it somewhere safe and use the app’s import process when you need to transfer your records. Treat that code as private.
Can I move my data from Android to iPhone, or the other way around?
Yes. SubScale supports cross-platform data migration using its encrypted migration code. Export it from the old phone and import it on the new one.
Does SubScale automatically sync between phones?
No. SubScale uses local storage rather than cloud sync. Moving records between devices uses the backup and migration process.
Can you recover my records if I lose my phone?
SubScale does not keep a cloud copy of your tracking records that support can retrieve. Keep a current backup or migration code somewhere you can access without the old phone.
Is moving my data the same as moving my Premium purchase?
No. Data migration transfers your records. Premium billing is handled separately by Apple or Google Play. Check with support before switching platforms if you need help with your purchase.
How do I safely transfer offline subscription data to a new phone without cloud sync?
SubScale uses an encrypted backup and migration code rather than continuous cloud sync. You export a secure migration code from your existing device and import it on your new iPhone or Android device, moving your records directly between platforms without exposing your unencrypted data to the cloud.
I have a question or found a bug. What should I send support?
Email support@subscaleapp.com with your phone model, operating-system version, SubScale version and a short explanation of the problem. A screenshot can help—just hide private amounts or other information you do not want to share. Never send bank passwords, card details or your migration code.
